This weeks entry is a bit on the lame side for me, but here it is.

I snapped this image while touring the Scheels Outdoors Sporting Goods store in Springfield, Il. today. Don't ask me why it is displaying sideways... It's not like this in the folder on my flashdrive.
And Google won't let me rotate it either.

This is an air hockey table made by "Viper."
I noticed that the angles on the lowercase letters somewhat resemble the sketches of my typeface in my sketch book... my letters are headed in that direction anyway.

Hello Everyone,
This week's entry is directly from Upscale Typography.
This ought to remind you of our Exercise #11 Type Selection where we had to choose a font to represent different words and their meaning or feeling. These examples (under the Communication- Arts Image) are however only a single typeface. I like how the same font does such a fine job of expressing each individual word.

Lets do two this week.

Von Jakob's Kroshenfeler Blush happens to be my wife's favorite wine. It is produced right here in Illinois. The font just "Works" doesn't it ? And check out that Alcohol content !!! 12% ufda !
Von Jakob makes a variety of good wines. I particularly like their Red Oak Port.
This entry for award winning typography is a simple billboard. Many of you have probably seen this billboard already. The billboard is on Kirby Ave. near the County Market grocery store just west of Niel St.

I chose this because I believe that the use of typeface blends very well with the subtle waves in the background (look carefully). The font also represents a futuristic feel. Waves, Future... It all flows together quite well, and the woman ain't bad looking either !

This weeks choice is a web site that uses type as an art form.
The image below is a screenshot of a Flash presentation on the artext site. The presentation does have sound, so you may wish to turn off your music and turn up your volume... or visa versa.

Can you see the eye... and the face taking shape.
I stole this screenshot while the flash program was running.

This screenshot was taken a minute or less after the previous one.

It's quite interesting what can be done with type if you have the creative mind & spirit to do so.
The owners of the site want you to buy their software to be capable of doing this, but if I am not mistaken, this can be done in Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator using special brushes.

My choice for an award-winning typeface this week is Zephyr, by Gabor Kothay.
The typeface is produced by p22 Type Foundry.

The image indicates that the typeface was designed by Emily Styles, however the link was no longer leading to anything relevant, so I searched for Zephyr typeface and chose the font as displayed on fonts2u.com. The font is available for free... so yes, I downloaded mine.

This week's entry is University Roman (TM) Bold.
I discovered it on:

Oscar-awarded Movie Fonts 2012

Designed by:
Mike Daines in 1979
I like this typeface because it has a "Tolkien" feel to it. Thats it.
